(PR) HJTA Files Class Action Against Pasadena Over Unfair Water Rates

The City of Pasadena has been served with a class action lawsuit filed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association on behalf of nonresident water customers, challenging the rates the City charges them for water.

Pasadena Water and Power, a department of the City, provides water to residents of Pasadena, but also serves territory outside the City. It maintains two rate classes; one for city residents and another for nonresidents. Nonresidents pay 25% more for their water.  Read more >>

(PR) HJTA Files Suit to Remove Senate Bill 1272 from Ballot

Today (22) the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association filed a legal action seeking to remove Senate Bill 1272 from the statewide November ballot. (PR) HJTA ADDS NEW ATTORNEY TO LITIGATION TEAM

Sacramento --- The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is pleased to welcome Ryan Cogdill to its expanding legal department.

Cogdill, who graduated from McGeorge School of Law in 2011, will assist the Association with its legal efforts on behalf of California taxpayers, including the defense of Propositions 13 and 218, the integrity of the initiative process and government accountability. (PR) LOWERING TWO-THIRDS VOTE A NON-STARTER WITH VOTERS: POLL CALLS INTO QUESTION VIABILITY OF ACA 8

Today (12) the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association released the results of a poll which shows that a proposed ballot measure seeking to lower the two thirds vote for local bonds would face significant hostility from California voters. "The results of the poll are especially important given that Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 8 (ACA 8) is currently pending in the California Senate" said HJTA President Jon Coupal.
