Sacramento ---ACA 6, the Constitutional amendment which would have stifled the ballot initiative process, was defeated on the floor of the Assembly today.
“Today’s defeat of ACA 6 is the first step toward victory over a massive power grab by special interests and tax-and-spend politicians in Sacramento,” said Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. “Legislators who supported the measure would have done irreparable harm to our state’s direct initiative process that has provided critical protections to taxpayers in California.”
But the fight isn’t over. Amendments to ACA 6 are still allowed and may be voted on in August, after the Legislature returns from summer recess.
