(PR) HJTA Report Card on Lawmakers

More than half earn an “F” grade

Sacramento -- Sacramento lawmakers received their grades today, and over half the class is failing, according to the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

HJTA annually analyzes the votes of legislators and assigns them a letter grade. Out of 120 members of the Legislature, 73 received a grade of "F"
for 2009. On the other end of the spectrum, 29 received a grade of "A."
Only two, Joel Anderson and Diane Harkey, received perfect scores. Read more >>

Paycheck Income Tax Withholding Increases 10% in November and December, due to Budget Deal last May

Sacramento -- Just in time for the holidays, the State of California will once again dip into the wallets of taxpayers in California.

Charles Young’s lawsuit to overturn Prop. 13 is re-filed in Superior Court

Sacramento -- After the California Supreme Court refused to hear a case claiming that Proposition 13 is unconstitutional, plaintiff Charles Young has now re-filed his case in Superior Court.

The case challenges the provision of California’s Prop. 13 which requires a two-thirds vote by the Legislature to raise taxes or enact a budget. Prior to Prop. 13, the Legislature could enact a tax increase by a simple majority vote. Read more >>
