Orange County --- Last night in front of a standing room-only audience, Jon Coupal – President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association – was honored with the “The William Rusher Award for Excellence in Journalism.”

Coupal was honored as a leading voice for fiscal conservatism in California politics and the state budget. His advocacy is delivered each week through numerous Opinion Editorial pieces and weekly columns which are published throughout the state. (PR) HJTA provides Taxpayers’ Response to “State of the State” Address

Sacramento -- Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association’s president Jon Coupal released official reaction to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s annual “State of the State” address today:

Any attempt to bring down California's $20 billion budget deficit must begin with three things: creating jobs, easing revenue volatility, and cutting spending.

Streamlining the permitting of construction projects and creating CEQA exemptions will take the brakes off job creation and will help to bring down California’s astronomically high 12.5% unemployment rate.  Read more >>

(PR) HJTA Report Card on Lawmakers

More than half earn an “F” grade

Sacramento -- Sacramento lawmakers received their grades today, and over half the class is failing, according to the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

HJTA annually analyzes the votes of legislators and assigns them a letter grade. Out of 120 members of the Legislature, 73 received a grade of "F"
for 2009. On the other end of the spectrum, 29 received a grade of "A."
Only two, Joel Anderson and Diane Harkey, received perfect scores.  Read more >>
