Government for the Government

If Abraham Lincoln were delivering his Gettysburg Address today, he might feel compelled to conclude, "... that government for the government shall not perish from this earth." Read more >>

Redistricting Reform, Not Longer Terms, Is the Answer

When Proposition 93, which would have extended terms for sitting lawmakers, went down in flames, taxpayers breathed a collective sigh of relief. Read more >>

Election Fraud

Proposition 93 on the February ballot is a fraud designed to allow all current members of the Assembly to serve an additional six years and those in the Senate to remain for an additional four years. Read more >>

Proposed Lawsuit to Overturn Term Limits Is An Affront to Voters

It is a poorly held secret that sitting legislators hate term limits more than anyone else. Once elected, these politicians feel a strong sense of entitlement to keep their seats in office. Sure, they will always couch their expressions in terms of "letting the voters decide" about whether they should be permitted to stay in office, but this ignores the fact that the very reason voters approved Proposition 140 back in 1990 was because they accurately perceived that the powers of incumbency -- and lack of rational district lines -- essentially shut the door to challengers. Read more >>

Doing the People's Business, or Their Own?

Our elected leaders are generating a great deal of buzz now in the Capitol -- but very little of it has to do with issues that concern ordinary Californians. Throughout the shallow (whoops, I meant hallowed) halls of the statehouse, whispers and political jockeying are abounding on three issues relating to raw political power: Term limits, the early presidential primary and reapportionment. Read more >>
