Gov. Brown has signed Assembly Bill 195 (Obernolte), an HJTA sponsored bill that strengthens requirements that the cost of tax measures be clearly stated on the ballot. AB 195 mandates that the ballot label for all local tax measures include the rate and duration of a tax increase as well as an estimate of the amount of money to be raised. The measure applies to taxes placed on the ballot by both citizen initiative and by local governments.
HJTA and Assemblyman Jay Obernolte have worked closely together to make sure voters get the information they need to make an informed decision on tax proposals. Thanks to AB 195, taxpayers will no longer have to guess what the passage of a tax increase measure will mean to them.
