An August decision by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has given government employees 99 ways to increase their pensions, often by performing functions that are considered part of their jobs anyway, reports the Los Angeles Times. Under the guidelines, librarians would receive extra pension benefits for helping people find books, for example. The Governor, who has taken steps to rein in excesses in the system, called on CalPERS to reverse this decision.
