A recent review by the state auditor found many agencies are not in compliance with security standards meant to safeguard personal information, reports the San Diego Union Tribune. One of the problems found was a self-compliance system that allowed agencies that were not in compliance to still certify themselves. A recent data breach in the Department of Personnel Management impacted 20 million job-seekers and the large amount of data in state systems requires a higher level of security to prevent additional breaches.
