California has been flirting with the idea of having a single-payer universal health care system. The Press-Telegram reports that the annual price of this single-payer system would be $400 billion. Only $200 billion is able to be covered by federal, state, and local funding, leaving taxpayers on the hook for the other $200 billion. Opponents of the bill say that costs will be passed on to taxpayers and would give the government too much power.
