In a recent report by tax policy research organization Tax Foundation, the group compiled the tax burden of residents in each state. As of the 2015 fiscal year, individual income tax collections per capita in the 10 highest-taxed states exceeded the national average of $967, writes USA Today. It should come as no surprise that California ranked as the fourth highest taxed state in the nation, just beneath New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
