The country’s two largest teachers unions, the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers, spent $60 million dollars on political campaigns in the recently completed midterm elections, but many of their candidates failed to win their races reports the Washington Free Beacon. Some union members feel this political spending is excessive and would prefer their membership dues be used in ways that more directly help teachers. Advocates of education reform say the election results represent a preference for school choice among voters.
