California’s landmark environmental law passed 45 years ago and known as the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA, has also burdened business owners with requirements that they conduct lengthy and expensive studies and defend against lawsuits. One Poway auto body shop owner spent $170,000 defending his business from a CEQA lawsuit brought by a competing body shop. While his business survived the three year long lawsuit ordeal, it forced him to cut expenses by half and borrow from friends, reports Voice of San Diego.
