Despite the opportunity to pass a bipartisan bill in 2016 that would have greatly reduced the risk of wildfires, outgoing governor Jerry Brown submitted to pressure from radical environmentalists and vetoed it. SB 1463, sponsored by Republican State Sen. John Moorlach, would have allowed local governments more control over reducing wildfire risks, as well as the ability to partner with the California Public Utilities Commission and CalFire to divise fire risk maps.
