In anticipation of an unfavorable ruling on the Janus v AFSCME U.S. Supreme Court case, California government employee unions are looking to circumvent the impact of losing mandatory dues from bargaining unit employees, writes Joel Fox of Fox & Hounds Daily. As a result, unions are attempting to push a bill through the state legislature that would give unions a much greater amount of power over individual employee decisions on whether to continue paying union dues. SB 866 would require that public employees make their requests to opt of of mandatory union dues directly to the union, rather than their employer, and would lock out communication between employees and their employers concerning dues deductions.
