The California legislature recently passed a bill that would add a $75 fee to all real estate documents in hopes to raise $1 billion. This money would then be used for low-income housing to allow those who are poorer to remain in California. Critics, like John Phillips, point out that immediately after passing this bill, another bill was passed to allow Marin County to avoid following California’s affordable housing laws which mean none of the new low-income housing would be built near them.
