It’s no secret that buying a house in California is expensive; the median home price in California is double the national average. California has since legislated mandatory solar panels on all new houses built that is expected to increase housing costs by approximately $30,000 but is touted to save homeowners $23 a month in energy bills. Andrew Wilford, a researcher for the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, points out, in the San Francisco Examiner, that once homeowners acquire their mortgage, that saving disappears and becomes a $11 a month cost.
