Gas prices will rise in January as a result of a new tax on fuel by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), writes Steve Hansen in the Lodi News. Unlike other gas taxes, funds raised will not be dedicated to improving California’s roads and highways. While policymakers hope the new tax is looked at as an act of leadership in the fight against climate change, few political leaders elsewhere have expressed interest in raising gas prices in their own communities.
