It’s no secret that California has a pension problem, but there might be people who are unaware how large this problem will become. Currently, the average California city spends 8.3% of its budget on pensions; however, that number is expected to jump to 15.8% by 2024. Critics, like those in the OC Register, believe that California must take action towards pension reform before California cities start spending one-fifth of their budget on just pensions.
