In 2007, the state regulatory burden cost small businesses almost $135,000 per business per year. However, California continues to add new regulations to businesses like SB 1284. Critics like Chuck DeVore in the Washington Examiner point out that SB 1284 would require California businesses with more than 100 employees to produce a report for the state that would detail every employees gender, race, ethnicity, job categories, hours worked and for what pay. The effects of this bill will force businesses to adhere to more regulations and send some out of state.
