While many California politicians are proposing new taxes, Board of Equalization Member George Runner writes in the Sierra Star that taxes are high enough and spending should be addressed. State bureaucrats recently raised taxes with a new hidden tax on gas and additional taxes on drivers and on sales are being proposed in the Legislature. However, spending increased 7.5% last year, outpacing other states and dispelling the claim by tax raisers that a lack of money is the problem.
