Sacramento’s recently-approved gas tax increase has now taken effect, at a time politicians hoped it would go unnoticed, writes Senator Mike Morell in the Riverside Press Enterprise. Although gas tax boosters claim money generated by the gas tax will go to roads, Morell points out gas taxes were high before the increase, with little obvious benefit to our road system. Furthermore, there are already many specific examples of plans to use new gas tax money for projects, such as bike paths and light rail, which do nothing to improve our roads.
