California was once known for its explosive birthrate, but now that rate has hit an all time low while the national rate is up 2.2%. Joel Kotkin, from The Press-Enterprise, points out that the demographic group leaving California in droves is 34-54 and making $100,000-$200,000 a year. Critics point the blame to skyrocketing housing prices as the reason why most families are leaving.
