Instead of creating taxes, and in turn, hurting their approval ratings, politicians across the nation have been making up “fees” that are taxes in every way but name, Fox News reports. In Kristin Tate’s new book, “How Do I Tax Thee? A Field Guide to the Great American Rip-Off,” she points out many of the absurd, hidden taxes that people have been paying, such as a sliced-bagel tax in New York City. To add insult to injury, it turns out that many of these “fees” are simply sent to their city or state’s general fund.
