Many people in Chicago are outraged by a recent proposal by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to raise property taxes to generate funds for government employee pensions and other shortfalls in the city budget, writes Joel Fox in Fox and Hounds Daily. The tax increase is particularly upsetting to Chicagoans because Mayor Emanuel has already increased their property taxes by 60 percent. California’s landmark taxpayer protection, Proposition 13, was passed when Californians faced similar uncontrolled tax increases which is why the measure should be protected.
