When Proposition 30 tax increases were proposed to voters in 2012, political insiders were already preparing plans to extend the “temporary” measure, writes Gloria Romero in the Orange County Register. Initiative proposals to extend these taxes or make them permanent show the political class never actually intended to give up the new revenues but simply promised the taxes would be temporary to make passing them easier. However, recent survey data indicates voters may not be willing to keep Prop. 30 taxes beyond their original expiration.
