TAXPAYER RIGHTS WARRIOR JACK DEAN IS HJTA TAXFIGHTER OF THE YEAR
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is proud to name Jack Dean of Fullerton as Taxfighter of the Year.
"Jack has spent decades battling to protect taxpayers’ rights against overreaching government" said HJTA President Jon Coupal. "He has become the go to guy on a number of issues including the abuse of the pension system by government employee unions that is costing taxpayers billions of dollars."
Jack Dean is president of the Fullerton Association of Concerned Taxpayers (FACT) – a community organization dedicated to free market principles individual rights private property rights and taxpayer rights. Since 2004 he has monitored the growing public pension crisis by publishing a website called PensionTsunami.com. It tracks news and trends on the subject nationally with a primary focus on California. He is currently Vice President of the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility (CFFR) – an organization launched in 2006 by the late California Assemblyman Keith Richman to work on the pension issue on a statewide basis.
In 2011 while serving as Fullerton Councilman Bruce Whitaker’s appointee on the Fullerton Ad Hoc Water Rate Study Committee he identified that the city had been charging an illegal 10% in lieu franchise fee for years. With help from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association the illegal tax was terminated by the City Council and ultimately a portion of the amount that had been illegally collected during the previous three years was refunded to water ratepayers.
"While joining our countrymen in giving thanks at this time of year we at the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association especially want to remember those unsung souls who improve our lives by volunteering their time to act as watchdogs over government spending and who provide advice on making more efficient use of taxpayers’ dollars" said Coupal.
