Sacramento — Today the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association delivered a letter to State Controller John Chiang demanding that he withhold pay to the members of the Legislature for failure to pass a balanced budget by the constitutional deadline as required by Proposition 25 which voters approved last year.
“Your failure to withhold payment will subject your office to legal action in order to compel your compliance with the Constitution” wrote HJTA President Jon Coupal.
Governor Brown in his veto message declared the budget not “balanced” and the HJTA legal team agrees.
“The Constitution demands a balanced budget on deadline and Prop. 25 put teeth in to the law by cutting off pay to a non-compliant Legislature commented Coupal. “We can’t allow the Sacramento politicians to continue to thumb their noses at the Constitution and the people of California.”
