Sacramento — Jon Coupal President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association released the following statement today upon release of Governor Brown’s budget:
"Today Governor Brown released a budget which proposes the largest tax increase in the history of all 50 states ÛÒ a tax on California’s working families for 5 years during one of the worst recessions of our time. While we support his budget cuts and reforms to areas such as redevelopment agencies we are perplexed that his proposal does not include a single mention of the largest growing disaster facing California ÛÒ the unfunded Pension crisis. And although Governor Brown says this is a ‘temporary tax’ history has proven that Sacramento politicians regard no tax as temporary.
“It is worth noting that voters have rejected the last seven tax increases dating back to 2006 ÛÒ six of them by double-digits. Just two short years ago we stood shoulder to shoulder with the people of California in defeating Prop. 1A ÛÒ Governor Schwarzenegger’s tax increase ÛÒ and we will do the same to fight for taxpayers and working families of California in order to protect them from 5 more years of massive tax increases perpetuated by Sacramento politicians."
