Sacramento — As the Governor and Legislative leaders meet today to discuss the state Budget crisis Taxpayers called upon their elected leaders for increased accountability and transparency.
"Gone are the days when Taxpayers would tolerate a Budget deal crafted behind closed doors" said Jon Coupal President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. "These Budget negotiations will affect every Taxpayer and the public has a right to know what’s being traded against their future."
The taxpayer watchdog group suggested that one (1) pool camera be allowed to film the proceedings and share the footage for re-broadcast on stations across California. Such a service could easily be provided by Capitol Television News Service/PAC SAT or the California Channel with existing resources.
"Last Spring the multi-billion-dollar tax increase crafted under the cloak of secrecy soon became the catalyst for public outcry which led to Tax revolts in the street" said Coupal. "I doubt elected officials want to see that again."
