The number of cities passing resolutions in support of Proposition 13 is growing rapidly.
Over recent weeks city councils representing the following California cities have approved a resolution praising the benefits of Proposition 13 to homeowners renters businesses taxpayers in general local governments and the state of California as a whole:
- Fountain Valley
- Irvine
- Laguna Niguel
- La Mesa
- Los Alamitos
- Mission Viejo
- Oakley
- Rancho Santa Margarita
- San Juan Capistrano
- Villa Park
“Taxpayers owe these communities a hearty thank you for standing up for Proposition 13 and the rights of taxpayers” said Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (named after the primary author of Proposition 13) President Jon Coupal. “While special interests in Sacramento are pressing harder than ever to pass measures that would circumvent Proposition 13 and make it easier to increase taxes having these city leaders take a position in support of protections for average folks is especially welcome.”
Proposition 13 limits annual assessment increases on property to no more than two percent annually requires the approval of voters for new local taxes and a vote of two-thirds of each house of the Legislature to increase state taxes.
